SING SING Earns Three Academy Award Nominations

SING SING continues to collect acclaim for its beautiful and authentic portrayal of the power of arts in prison programs to transform lives. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on January 23, 2025 that SING SING has been nominated for three Academy Awards:

  • Best Actor in a Leading Role — Colman Domingo
  • Best Adapted Screenplay — Screenplay by Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar; Story by Clint Bentley, Greg Kwedar, Clarence Maclin, and John “Divine G” Whitfield
  • Best Original Song — “Like A Bird” by Abraham Alexander & Adrian Quesada

With the Best Adapted Screenplay nomination, Clarence Maclin and John “Divine G” Whitfield become the first RTA alums ever nominated for an Oscar.

As of January 23, 2025, SING SING is playing in theaters nationwide. Find a showtime near you.

The film follows the inspiring story of RTA alum John “Divine G” Whitfield (played by Colman Domingo), as he finds purpose by acting in RTA’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility theater group alongside RTA alum Clarence Maclin, who plays himself.

Several other RTA alums, including Board Member Sean Dino Johnson appear in the film. Maclin has been collecting awards and nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of himself in the film.
