RTA Alum and Sing Sing Principal Cast and Executive Producer

Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin

As Clarence Maclin, aka “Divine Eye” puts it, “My life was influenced by hip hop, but I was drawn to the negative parts of a beautiful culture.” By 1995, he was incarcerated and sent to Sing Sing Correctional Facility to serve his sentence. In his sixth year of incarceration at Sing Sing, he was asked to participate in the RTA program.

Soon he was cast in RTA theater productions, making his debut as Juror #5 in Reginald Rose’s play “Twelve Angry Men” and leading roles in many other productions. During this time, Clarence earned his Associate’s degree in Behavioral Psychology through Mercy College.

Clarence has worked as a youth counselor, creative arts specialist, and gang intervention specialist at Lincoln Hall Boys Haven in Somers, NY. He currently serves as an RTA consultant representing the organization at speaking engagements, going into facilities, and working with RTA participants.

Clarence will make his feature film debut in the upcoming movie “Sing Sing”, a film based on RTA, as the co-lead opposite Colman Domingo and Paul Raci, for writer/director duo Greg Kwedar and Clint Bentley. Robert Daniels (RogerEbert.com) put the film among the best of TIFF 2023, saying “In his debut screen performance, Maclin is everything you want an actor to be: deeply felt, magnetic, emotionally and physically attuned. His star-making performance brandishes a soft touch for deep impact.”
