Taking a Bow: A Tribute to Katherine Vockins

On Sunday, December 11, 2022, the RTA community celebrated Katherine Vockins, RTA’s Founder & Executive Director.

Her vision and leadership launched RTA at Sing Sing Correctional Facility 26 years ago when few civilians were venturing inside a maximum-security prison, never mind creating a theater program that recognized the humanity of incarcerated people. Today, RTA has impacted the lives of hundreds of incarcerated men and women and has become a leader in the field of arts-in-corrections.

“Taking a Bow, A Tribute to Katherine Vockins” was an afternoon for RTA alumni, teaching artists, colleagues, friends and supporters in the field to come together and honor Katherine’s remarkable career. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the event and to everyone who came out on a cold and snowy day to pay tribute to Katherine.

Katherine’s tenure as Executive Director will end this year, but she will continue with RTA as a consultant working on Reimagining Myself®, a new reentry program for the organization launching in 2023.
