As we look forward to next year, we are excited by the growth of RTA programs! In January 2024, we will begin providing our core workshops at Collins Correctional Facility in Western, NY and Wallkill Correctional Facility in Wallkill, NY.
Collins is located in the upstate western part of New York where fewer programs are offered. Through our partnership with the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, we look forward to expanding to these more remote areas of the state offering more rehabilitative opportunities to more incarcerated individuals.
In February, we will begin the full rollout of our newest initiative, Reimagining Myself®, a transitional reentry program that addresses the social and emotional challenges an incarcerated individual is likely to face when released. The pilot of this program was launched in Woodbourne and Wallkill Correctional Facilities, and the facilities themselves wanted us back to provide the program to new groups of residents getting ready for release. Plans for additional facilities are being developed.
Our community (YOU!) has helped us serve our mission to more and more people in our 27 years+. Our longevity and continued growth show that an arts-based approach focused on humanity over punishment, and community over isolation, effectively provides those directly impacted by the carceral system, the insight and confidence to change.
