A four-part documentary series spotlighting the stories of several men close to our hearts here at Rehabilitation Through the Arts is re-airing this Saturday.

The Sing Sing Chronicles follows the two-decade story of six wrongfully convicted men as they fight for exoneration — focusing on the case of Jon-Adrian “JJ” Velazquez and the fierce advocacy of investigative reporter and RTA colleague, friend, and partner in transforming the criminal legal system, Dan Slepian.

The series, which earned Slepian a News & Documentary Emmy Award, is based on his book “The Sing Sing Files“and originally premiered on MSNBC. It will re-air this Saturday (July 27).

Velazquez, who also stars in the feature film “Sing Sing” (the critically acclaimed A24 film telling the story of RTA’s theater programs at Sing Sing Correctional Facility), was finally exonerated this year after fighting for more than two decades to prove his innocence.

The Sing Sing Chronicles also tells the stories of Slepian’s advocacy for five other wrongfully convicted men, including RTA alum Johnny Hincapie.

Dan Slepian was honored at RTA’s 25th Anniversary gala in 2022.
